Safari continues to support Java, Silverlight, Unity, and other NPAPI-based plugins. Google has made it very easy to install Chrome and have it. I've have personally used these and so I can vouch for their authenticity, especially for Pale Moon as I've interactive with their users and I do quite a bit of helping on their forums. Despite these aggressive moves, Apple hasn't removed NPAPI plugin support from Safari-at least as of macOS Sierra 10.12. Now what I have found are two browsers that will continue support for the NPAPI plugins, they are Slimjet (based-off Chromium v44 that integrates an adblcoker, social media buttons, turbocharged download manager all with improved security/privacy settings) and Pale Moon (an Open Source web browser forked-off from the Firefox/Mozilla code without the Australis design). So, I've actually known about this transition (removal of NPAPI plugins) that Opera will soon make for about a good year and so I have been planning for this as I use plugins in my work environment. I do this because I'm trying to find the perfect browser, but as you know, there is no such thing (Opera and Pale Moon are my favorites). I'm Opera user, well to be exact, I test all sorts of browsers.

Both wear headscarves that identify them as Waldensians, members of a Christian sect founded in the 12th century who were branded as heretics by the Catholic Church, partly because they allowed women to become priests.Īnthologist Robin Skelton suggests the association between witches and brooms may have roots in a pagan fertility ritual, in which rural farmers would leap and dance astride poles, pitchforks or brooms in the light of the full moon to encourage the growth of their crops. In the two drawings, one woman soars through the air on a broom the other flies aboard a plain white stick. The earliest known image of witches on brooms dates to 1451, when two illustrations appeared in the French poet Martin Le Franc’s manuscript Le Champion des Dames (The Defender of Ladies). His confession came under torture, and he eventually repented but was still imprisoned for life.īy the time of Edelin’s “confession,” the idea of witches riding around on broomsticks was already well established. He was arrested in 1453 and tried for witchcraft after publicly criticizing the church’s warnings about witches. Edelin was a priest from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, near Paris. From the beginning, brooms and besoms were associated primarily with women, and this ubiquitous household object became a powerful symbol of female domesticity.ĭespite this, the first witch to confess to riding a broom or besom was a man: Guillaume Edelin. It gradually replaced the Old English word besom, though both terms appear to have been used until at least the 18th century. The word broom comes from the actual plant, or shrub, that was used to make many early sweeping devices. You probably won't find a child older than 12 wanting to sit through this show. As new models of rights-based social work practice emerge, the incorporation of human rights throughout curricula will help students understand themselves and their clients as right-holders (Reichert, 2007). Androff and McPherson ( 2014) highlighted that although this unnecessary rift exists, expertise in one dimension of practice does not require blindness to the other. Yet, in the USA, human rights are often referred to when addressing international social work issues (Libal & Healy, 2014 Reichert, 2007), emphasizing the need to bridge human rights to domestic practice (Gatenio Gabel & Mapp, 2019).Īdding to the disconnect with human rights is the false micro and macro divide in US-based social work. The right to social services is specified in UDHR Article 25 (United Nations, 1948). Human rights issues, such as racial and gender equality, healthcare, and housing, are at the heart of social work practice (Healy, 2008 Ife, 2008 NASW, 2017 van Wormer, 2006 Wronka, 2008). Human Rights in Social Work Education and PracticeĬoncepts that underlie human rights are not new to the profession. We stress the imperative to train US-based social work students to address complex social issues through a human rights lens. The purpose of this article is to present one program’s attempt to evaluate human rights exposure in social work education, as well as a human rights lens and engagement in practice among graduating MSW students. Since the addition of human rights to social work education accreditation standards, more students have been introduced to human rights concepts yet, Gatenio Gabel and Mapp ( 2019) found that 12% of US-based social work programs did not include human rights in their curriculum. In the 2015 EPAS, CSWE extended the mandate to two competencies (Competencies 3 and 5) (Chiarelli-Helminiak et al., 2018). In 2008, the CSWE first introduced human rights in its Education Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS). The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) has been proactive in promoting human rights through its accreditation requirements for US-based social work education programs. This distinct connection between professional values and human rights necessitates the inclusion in social work education. Social justice, a core value that distinguishes social work, was found to relate to 14 of the 30 UDHR articles (Albrithen & Androff, 2014). Their analysis linked all articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR, United Nations, 1948) to the six ethical principles. Yet, Albrithen and Androff ( 2014) argued that human rights are embedded within the NASW ( 2017) Code of Ethics. The ethical statement of the International Federation of Social Workers ( 2018) states the “principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work.” Whereas, the US-based National Association of Social Workers (NASW, 2017) does not include human rights in its professional ethical code. Given its history as a human right profession (Healy, 2008), social work is uniquely qualified to promote human rights, increase engagement and exposure in the classroom, and embed this framework in practice (McPherson & Cheatham, 2015). Yet, in the USA, the profession has been reluctant to integrate human rights concepts into education and practice (Reichert, 2007). Human rights violations lead clients to seek out social work interventions. Recommendations are provided to strengthen academic leadership and research in this area and empower students to drive a paradigm shift in the profession. The imperative is now to train social work students to address complex social issues through human rights exposure, engagement, and lens as we prepare for a post-pandemic world. Findings suggest that a human rights exposure in course work and practicum is related to students’ practice lens and engagement. How the program applied a human rights-based approach to social work field education will also be discussed. Multiple assessment instruments were used to measure human rights exposure in social work education, as well as a human rights lens and engagement in social work practice among 93 graduating MSW students from a public university with suburban and urban campus locations. A pre-experimental one-group posttest-only program evaluation design was implemented. The program’s specialization focused on advanced social work practice with individuals, families, and communities grounded in social justice and human rights. In response to a mandate to advance human rights through social work education, this article focuses on the curricular redesign and program evaluation of one MSW Program. The remaining members have released several retrospective works, including a book, a documentary, and a career-spanning compilation album.Ĭontinue reading at Wikipedia. And does it really work?īefore you grab a box of borax and get to work, read this guide where Good Housekeeping Institute Cleaning Lab Executive Director Carolyn Forté details the ins and outs of laundry stripping, including if it's actually the most effective way to clean your bed linens, no matter how often you launder them. But with all the fascination around laundry stripping comes many questions about it, too. Not only is the transformation incredibly satisfying to watch, but it has also made many people question just how clean their sheets and towels really are. It's understandable why this soaking method has gone viral - the TikToks show tubs filled with murky brown water after letting supposedly clean laundry soak for a few hours. But laundry stripping really became a household phenomenon after MrsLaurenElms posted a before-and-after TikTok in early 2020 - and since then, TikToks about laundry stripping have racked up hundreds of millions of views. In fact, the Good Housekeeping Institute Cleaning Lab experts still use a version of this technique to remove residue and restore the test bath towels we use when evaluating fabric softeners. Long before it became a TikTok sensation, it was a method used by cleaning professionals. The concept of laundry stripping isn't new. Dramatic viral photos show how the process removes detergent build-up and hard water residues, turning colors bright and making fabrics soft again. And that's the appeal of laundry stripping and the reason it has become such an internet phenomenon. But if your best bed sheets, softest towels and favorite clothing items, despite your best efforts, are looking dingy and feeling scratchy, you know you need to take action. It comes as no surprise that doing laundry the right way isn't an easy task and can quickly turn into a never-ending one, especially with multiple people in the household. This is premised on tighter financial conditions finally weighing enough on aggregate demand to see US growth converge on the stagnant trajectories, especially in Europe. Currently we forecast 150bp of Fed easing starting next May/June. US slowdown is central: Our forecast for a higher EUR/USD next year hangs wholly on the view that the US will slow down, inflation will ease and the Fed will be able to make monetary policy less restrictive. Let’s see how the start of 2024 progresses and whether the BoJ is prepared to make its move after all. Big policy changes in Japan can have a big impact on USD/JPY as in 2013. However, we have some quite aggressive forecasts for a lower USD/JPY on the back of a weaker dollar and finally a proper Bank of Japan exit from ultra-loose policy. On the subject of carry, lower volatility favours the carry trade and also the yen as a funding currency. USD/CAD should come lower too, and while Canada’s high yield helps, its proximity to the US may be more of a burden in 2024. We are also bullish on the NZD/USD and are interested in whether the new government changes the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s remit – a potentially bullish factor for NZD. A hawkish Reserve Bank of Australia should not hurt either. The release valve of lower US rates should allow the Aussie dollar to lead the currency recovery against the US dollar. High US rates and weak Chinese growth have repressed it and made it the most undervalued currency in the G10 space. Our favourite currency in 2024, however, is the Australian dollar. Our favourite currency in 2024 is the Australian dollar Both central banks would prefer stronger currencies and the krone probably has a better chance of a recovery in 2024 given a stronger economy and its more severe undervaluation after the rally in energy prices. Both the Norwegian krone and the Swedish krona are undervalued – the krone more so. Having outperformed this year, we expect the Swiss franc to be flat against the euro in 2024 as the Swiss National Bank seeks more stability than strength in the nominal trade-weighted franc.īetter positioned in Europe we think (and conditioned on a lower interest rate environment) are the Scandi currencies. Neither does GBP/USD, given our mildly bullish view on EUR/GBP and 100bp of Bank of England easing. Looking across the currency blocs then – after relatively range-bound trading into year-end – we expect the dollar bear trend to pick up a little pace into the second quarter of 2024 as the short-end of the US curve starts to come substantially lower.Įuropean FX should be lifted, but stagnant eurozone growth and the risk that the European Central Bank cuts too early suggest that EUR/USD does not lead this rally. Notably, the euro and sterling do not have such protection. Their extreme undervaluation provides some much-needed protection against any continuing dollar strength. As outlined in our Behavioural Equilibrium Exchange Rate (BEER) model below, the commodity currencies are the most undervalued in the G10 space. To speak of ‘reflationary’ policy right now seems criminal – but the Fed has a dual mandate, and if inflation is coming under control through 2024 it can cut rates to ameliorate the impact on the labour force.īullish steepening of the US yield curve normally favours the commodity currencies, and that's our conviction call in the G10 space. To challenge the dollar, currencies will need a lot of protectionĪ typical financial market response to the start of a Federal Reserve easing cycle would be a bullish steepening of the US yield curve on the prospect of reflationary policy coming through.
